Frequently Asked Questions
What is DiaBuddies all about?
DiaBuddies is a resource for persons with diabetes. The premier component is the monthly support group meetings. Meetings are mostly virtual, with a few in-person meetups throughout the year (in New York metro area). In order to participate in DiaBuddies, first book an introductory session to learn more about the group. Intro sessions are free and last 10-15 minutes.
What are the support group meetings like?
Simply put: pure fun! It’s a great way to meet others who understand exactly what you may be going through. Support group meetings are on Sundays 4-5:30pm (one Sunday per month). Participants are encouraged to log in early to resolve any technical difficulties. We currently meet as 1 collective group, but anticipate branching into smaller, interest-based groups eventually.
Who can participate?
The group is meant for adults (ages 18+) with any type of diabetes. There is a separate group for caregivers, so please inquire about this. We are based in New York, but our virtual sessions are accessible to persons in other US states and other countries as well.
Is it free?
Yes! First register for a free introductory session, then you will receive the Zoom link for the free support group meetings.
I’m a Provider/CDCES, how can I refer clients to DiaBuddies?
Please provide clients with the website www.DiaBuddiesUSA.com and email address Dessa@DiaBuddiesUSA.com and encourage them to contact us. Thank you in advance!
Who runs DiaBuddies meetings?
DiaBuddies is owned and operated by Dessa Garnett Awadjie, a nurse practitioner and CDCES with over 10 years experience specializing in diabetes management and education.
